About Make It Real

Hi! I’m Alex Fox. Thanks for visiting! Here, you’ll find design ideas, technology tips, and inspiration on ways to craft one-of-a-kind things and create treasured memories for the people you love.

I started Make It Real for three reasons.

First, I’ve worked in the field of digital media for over 20 years. I've seen first-hand how the online world has become an isolating and unhealthy place for too many people. The more we connect with our devices, the less we connect with ourselves.

Second, I've learned that lots of people buy machines with the intention of making projects for family and friends, but hardly ever use them. That’s sad! If you’ve invested in a heat press, laser cutter, sublimation printer, or other device, it should be working for you. Making meaningful gifts is a great way to take advantage of those valuable tools.

Finally, I believe that making and giving meaningful, physical gifts is a fun and productive way to counteract the disposable, screen-focused culture that seems to have taken over so much of our lives. Although we use technology to do it, I think of it as being a bit like the way the human rebels in “Terminator” reprogrammed the old Terminator to fight the new Terminator! (By the way, I was a film major in college, so expect a LOT of movie references from me).
